As of April 22, 2010 is has been made mandatory that renovators working in pre-1978 homes and child-

occupied facilities must be EPA certified and use lead-safe work practices during renovations by EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CFR 745)

To keep you and your family safe, we have attended classes and received the proper training to be EPA certified and use lead-safe work practices during our installations.

Why should you be concerned about lead paint?
Lead-based pain was banned from residential use in 1978, but had been previously used to add color and durability.

Lead is very hazardous for children. Children are at a greater risk than adults because their bodies are developing. In children, lead can cause:

  • Nervous system and kidney damage
  • Decreased intelligence, attention deficit disorder, and learning disabilities
  • Speech, language, and behavior problems

Lead is also very hazardous to pregnant women, workers and other adults. Some health effects of lead in adults include:

  • High blood pressures
  • Digestive problems
  • Nerve disorders
  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Muscle or joint pain

The damage caused by lead can be irreversible.

Why are dust and debris a problem?
Renovations that disturb lead-based paint create dust and debris. Lead-contaminated dust is poisonous. Even just one gram of lead-based paint can contaminate a large area!

Think about it this way. A penny is 2 grams. Divide that penny into 2 million equal parts or 2 million micrograms. Just 10 of those pieces would be considered too much lead!

How wide spread is lead-based paint in housing?

Year House
Was Built
Percent of Houses
with Lead Based Paint
Before 1940 86 percent
1940-1959 66 percent
1960-1978 25 percent
All Housing 35 percent

So to keep you and your family safe we will be using EPA-recognized test kits to check for lead-based paint before we start the installation process. If you have any other questions feel free to contact us or learn more about our appliance installation online
